First Commenter on Blog Post #500 Wins A Free Large Plastic Thing!

So I first got into NPR's All Songs Considered when I was living in New Zealand, where I (a) had to drive 30 miles to buy a new CD, (b) had to drive [infinity symbol] miles to buy a guitar, (c) was disgusted by all the radio stations, and (e) quickly grew tired of all .047 GBs on my iPod. So in search of new music I would drop quarters into the slots at the internet cafe and sit downloading Podcast after Podcast, and while I think All Songs Considered is a misnomer, still I love Bob Boilen and his enthusiasm and most of the music they play I've never heard and some of it I like.

From there I discovered that if one is willing to search, one can download all kinds of awesome NPR stuff. My soul mate, Terry Gross, is there. APM's Marketplace. Woebegone. The car guys. All their news. The Music Podcast. I snorted all this information in a quick month or two. I took it straight to the dome.

A coworker of mine got fed up with all the NPR I was playing at work because, as he quite obviously points out, they're all communists - most of the government sponsored classical music I listen to is communist, most of my facial expressions are communist, all of my opinions are communist, my family is communist, my socks are fringe neo-communist. "Good morning, Comrade," he says to me when I walk in.

So I branched away from NPR and found and even more exciting world of Podcasts. The New Yorker. Selected Shorts. Basic Brewing Radio. Big Ideas. The One That Plays Hours Of West African Pop Music. And now I'm listening to Pandora Radio. Ask me how I got from Astor Piazzolla to Morgan Feldman in three moves.

Sadly, friend who has stuck with me for all these paragraphs, there is no point to this post. I'm just high as a kite on all kinds of sweet downloadable information.

Ideally the point of this post would be that you Ryan, the guy who has written it, are putting together a mix tape of highlights from all the information you've been downloading and getting high on, to link it and make it available to us, the people who are reading the post. Just sayin'.

(I meant to say, where can I go to pick up my big plastic thing? Will it contain tasty wine?)

Actually, no, this wasn't the 500th post. But it is coming up shortly.
