Today marks a day when the Mexicans beat up the Frenchies.
That's why you're supposed to get drunk on Corona (rather than some other beer that you would normally drink) and margaritas, and eat chips 'n' salsa.

UPDATE: I just spent the first hour of work cutting up tomatoes and lettuce. Why? Because it's Cinco de Mayo, and we must have a burrito bar.
Mmm... Burrito bar...

MMMMMMM....burritos. I'm jealous.
But I'm leaving work at 1:00pm to purchase corona and drink myself silly. Although...I'd still like a burrito. mmm.

oh, mexico is a funny place for history.
cinco de mayo commemorates 1 battle: the mexican army beat off the french who were coming to collect on a debt. The mexicans won, but one year later the french came back and took over for the next 4 years. until, that is, the nationalist mexicans executed the french-imposed governor.
see what happens when whitey messes with the brown peoples? debt, war, execution - it's all in a day's work (which american workers refuse to do)
