Rumors and the Profligation Thereof
So the rumors that Band A is playing its last show ever are now patently false—huzzah! We had a figurative make-up make-out session.
Good times. We had a great practice last night, too. I continue to change little things in songs, which is always nice. Like the song is still working itself out.
Meanwhile, Band B is working on a few new covers including:
That last one in particular kind of blows my mind. I mean, I'm willing to suspend judgment about Fall Out Boy and recognize it's simply a well-executed cover. But John Fucking Mayer on that solo? He fucking slays it.
Yeah, I know. John Mayer. Slaying. I'm as shocked as you are.

Hurray!
Hey, that's good news about your band!
(But, uh, bad news about that you're covering "Don't Stop Believing" -- what line of reasoning convinced you that this would be an interesting or worthwhile song to cover?)
TMK: Oddly, "Don't Stop Believing", along with "Shout", is among the most common request we get. I presume it has something to do with being drunk and wanting to hear a pop song.
You mean the Tears for Fears song? That's seems like an odd song to have a nostalgic attachment to as pop. It was way less of a hit than "Don't Stop Believing" was if memory serves -- I don't seem much in common between those two songs besides low quality. Or is this a different "Shout"?
People who request songs like that deserve what they get I guess.
Hey I was just listening to some really nice drumming, on the soundtrack to Yoshimbo.
Nope. Isley Brothers.
"Don't Stop Believing" is one of Journey's best songs!! And definitely one of my favorite 80's songs. I hope you do it justice.
p.s. I always knew you secretly loved John Mayer.
Oh yeah, ok. Thanks for making the image of you covering Tears for Fears go away. I think |Isley Bros. - Journey| > |Journey - Tears for Fears|, probably. Maybe the concert drunkards have been requesting Tears for Fears and you just didn't realize it.
john mayer spent some time with Herbie Hancock and the new headhunters in recent years, so at the very least, he gets "badass" by association.
and on a related note, the cover of band A's next album
Funny, and it sent me searching.
I wouldn't call it an embarrassment of riches, but there are a few more gems here.
Pretty much every guitarist I know grudgingly admits that John Mayer is a talented musician. He's a good blogger, too.
